Why sign the Wingfield Manor Petition?

Why are we urging Derbyshire residents to sign the petition to help save Wingfield Manor?

Wingfield Manor really is a hidden gem of English history; one of the most romantic and historically rich ruins in the country.

Built between 1440-1458 it was larger than Haddon Hall and designed with grandeur in mind - its inner courtyard alone had a square tower 72ft high!

Just a few of the many reasons why Wingfield Manor is so important:

- Mary, Queen of Scots, was imprisoned here multiple times between 1569 and 1584.

- Built by Ralph, Lord Cromwell, Treasurer of England, it symbolised immense wealth and power.

- It played a role in the English Civil War, suffering damage before being partly restored.

- The site has links to noble families including the Hertz, Belers, Greys and Howards.

Though it is now a ruin, we firmly believe that it urgently needs to be saved.

If you are a Derbyshire resident, please sign the petition by the 30th June. Find out more here.
