Buildings at Risk project launches in Erewash

We’re delighted to announce that our Buildings at Risk (B@R) project is expanding into Erewash in 2026, giving local people the opportunity to play a direct role in helping to care for historic buildings in their area.

Thanks to funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, volunteers across Amber Valley, Derby City and South Derbyshire have already been trained to use the B@R app to record the condition of Grade II listed buildings. These surveys help build a clearer picture of heritage at risk and support future conservation efforts.

Now, we’re inviting people in Erewash Borough to get involved.

Join us at a free launch event

To mark the launch, we’re hosting two free public sessions where you can find out more about the project and how to take part:

  • Thursday 29 January, 2pm — Erewash Museum

  • Saturday 7 February, 10am — Morley Retreat

At each session, the DHBT team will introduce the B@R project, provide a demonstration of the app, and offer initial guidance on completing surveys. There will also be plenty of opportunity to ask questions and chat with the team over refreshments. Both sessions are identical — just choose the date that suits you best.

No experience needed

You don’t need any specialist knowledge or surveying experience to take part. We’re simply looking for people who are curious about historic buildings and happy to get out and about in their local area. Training and ongoing support are provided, and volunteers can choose how much time they’d like to give.

Get involved

If you’re interested in helping to look after Erewash’s historic buildings, we’d love to welcome you at one of our launch events.

Both sessions are free, but booking is essential.
