B@R does Bolsover – join us for a heritage walking tour

Join the Derbyshire Historic Buildings Trust Buildings at Risk team for a special guided walk through Bolsover town centre and New Bolsover on Friday 25th September.
Led by B@R volunteer, Bolsover resident and local historian Wendy Stevenson, the walk will explore some of the town’s fascinating built heritage and show that there is much more to Bolsover than its famous castle.
We’ll meet at Bolsover Assembly Hall for a short introduction to DHBT’s Buildings at Risk project and our B@R app before heading out into the town.
As we explore the historic centre, Wendy will share some of the stories behind Bolsover’s buildings and development. We’ll then make our way down to New Bolsover, the remarkable model colliery village created for workers of the Bolsover Colliery Company, to discover more about the town’s industrial heritage.
Along the route there will also be opportunities to use the B@R app and complete some building condition surveys, supported by members of the DHBT team. It’s a great chance to gain some practical experience of surveying historic buildings while learning more about this distinctive part of Derbyshire.
After the walk, we’ll return to the Assembly Hall for light refreshments and an opportunity to chat with the team and other volunteers.

You don’t need any previous experience to take part.
Whether you’re interested in local history, have already downloaded the B@R app but would like some help getting started, or are one of our more experienced Buildings at Risk volunteers, we’d be delighted to see you.
The event is also a chance to meet other people with an interest in Derbyshire’s historic buildings in a relaxed and sociable setting.

The walk itself will take approximately two to three hours and covers around 3.5 miles.
Please be aware that the route includes grass, uneven paths, steps and some steep inclines, both uphill and downhill. Appropriate outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear are essential.
The George Bratt Room is on the first floor of the Assembly Hall, with lift access available. Full information about parking, public transport, facilities and accessibility is available on the booking page.
Numbers are limited for health and safety reasons, so early booking is recommended.
Can’t make the date?
Our Buildings at Risk team is available throughout the week to provide support by email, and volunteers can also arrange a one-to-one support session with a member of the team at our headquarters in Wirksworth.
