Wingfield Station: Handover of Keys from Amber Valley to DHBT - 10th December 2019

The 10th December 2019 was a very special day for Derbyshire Historic Buildings Trust; all those involved with the Wingfield Station project, past and present, met at a very muddy and wet site to witness the handover of the station keys from Amber Valley Council to DHBT.

Thanks to National Lottery players, we have been awarded a round one grant of £137,000 from the National Lottery Fund to start the restoration project, which will save the Grade II* building for future commercial and community use.

It was fantastic to share the day with such a variety of key people and organisations; all of whom have helped, or are helping, to secure success: The Architectural Heritage Fund, South Wingfield Local History Group, Historic England, The Pilgrim Trust, South Wingfield Parish Council, Derbyshire County COuncil and Freeths LLP to name but a few!

Amber Valley Borough Council compulsorily purchased the station after more than 30 years concern over its deteriorating condition. Ownership has now passed to DHBT, who will lead the restoration project.

South Wingfield Social Club provided the perfect venue to thaw out at afterwards. We even had a special mention the East Midlands Today programme!
