DHBT Architecture Awards 2025

The Deborah Devonshire Award

Winner – The Grammar, Heanor

Amber Valley Borough Council with GSSArchitecture

This year’s Deborah Devonshire Award - named in honour of the late Duchess of Devonshire, the Trust’s first President - has been awarded to The Grammar, Heanor.

This award reflects the exceptional ambition and sensitivity shown in bringing this once-derelict Grade II listed former Grammar School back into meaningful use.

Under the leadership of Amber Valley Borough Council and GSSArchitecture, the building has been reimagined. Extensive conservation works, the removal of unsympathetic additions and the careful restoration of key historic features, including the celebrated copper cupola and vaulted hall ceiling, demonstrate a deep respect for the building’s architectural legacy.

Congratulations!
