The local to South Wingfield, 'Save Our Countryside Group' (SOCG) visited Wingfield Station yesterday.
The group have been fighting to preserve the green landscape to the west of Alfreton from unwarranted development and a giant Solar Park (c.180acres). Yesterday was their last major fundraising event of the year.
A heritage walk tracing the route of historical footpaths leading from St Martin’s Church to South Wingfield and a walking talk by local historian, Richard Marsden, included the footpath to Wingfield Station.
DHBT Trustee, Peter Milner, was there to open up the station buildings. Peter provided a short talk about the history of the site before the 55 ramblers moved on to the South Wingfield Parish Rooms for much needed refreshments.
