We’re pleased to confirm that our Live Leadwork Showcase at Melbourne Hall has been rearranged and will now take place on Saturday 2nd May, 10am–3pm at the Carriage Ring.
Delivered in partnership with ASBC Heritage & Conservation Specialists - the Derbyshire-based contractors who carried out Phase 1 of the repair works at Wingfield Station - this free public event offers a fantastic opportunity to experience traditional heritage skills up close.
Why leadwork matters
Lead plays a vital role in protecting historic buildings. From roofs and flashings to gutters and detailing, it helps keep water out and prevents long-term damage to stonework, timber and interiors. When installed by skilled craftspeople, lead can last for over a century - making it one of the most durable and sustainable materials used in conservation.
However, these specialist skills are increasingly rare. Events like this help raise awareness and give people the chance to see and try traditional techniques for themselves.
What to expect
Visitors to the showcase will be able to:
Watch live leadworking demonstrations
Take part in hands-on activities
Ask questions and chat with experienced conservation specialists
Whether you’re interested in historic buildings, traditional crafts, or simply curious about how heritage is cared for, this is a great opportunity to learn more in a relaxed, welcoming setting.
