It is with great sadness we have learnt of the death of Dr Patrick Strange, peacefully, late Friday night. His funeral will be at Bradbourne. Date to be announced.

Patrick was one of the founder members of the Trust and served as Chairman for some years.

He was the foremost authority on the vernacular buildings of Derbyshire.

Update regarding funeral arrangements:

The funeral of longstanding supporter of the DHBT Dr Patrick Strange will be at Bradbourne parish church on Friday 24th July at 11.30.

For those of us less blessed intellectually it was slightly galling that an electrical engineer should be the foremost authority on the vernacular architecture of Derbyshire. But Pat’s wide ranging knowledge did not end there. He was also an authority on archaeological matters, particularly industrial archaeology, providing support to the Arkwright Society from its formation in 1971. He also played an important role in the Derbyshire Historic Buildings Trust from its inception in 1974, overseeing in 1990 the first county wide survey of buildings at risk and serving as its Chairman in 2011 to 2015.
