Commendation – Hobcroft Field Barn, Warslow

Standing quietly in the Peak District landscape, Hobcroft Field Barn has been sensitively repaired and returned to its original purpose as a low-key agricultural building.
Working on behalf of the Peak District National Park, Evans Vettori Architects led a careful programme of conservation works to stabilise and repair this traditional field barn, ensuring it continues to serve its rural setting while preserving its historic character.
The project reinstated the building’s structural integrity using traditional materials and techniques, maintaining the simplicity and authenticity that define the region’s vernacular farm buildings.
Judges praised the scheme for its restraint, craftsmanship and respect for the building’s original function - a fine example of how small-scale rural conservation can have a lasting impact on the character of Derbyshire’s working landscape.
