The recent article which was published in the local press has prompted several responses including the idea of turning Friar Gate Bridge into a themed restaurant.
Based on an idea that was proposed by Derek Latham a number of years ago the bridge would be restored with two Pullman restaurant carriages placed on the top. These carriages and the restored stations would then provide dining facilities and an exhibition space.
To make the idea succeed funding would first need to be found for the restoration work and though it was announced that the council would be spending £260k on the bridge this time last year no work has taken place. The Friends of Friar Gate Bridge are now progressing towards making a bid for 2 million pounds and are hoping to submit the application in the near future.
