Calling all B@R Citizen Surveyors!

ree

Thanks to our amazing volunteers, our ‘Buildings at Risk’ (B@R) project continues to go from strength to strength.

An astonishing 657 Grade II listed buildings and monuments have now been surveyed in Amber Valley and 324 in Derby City, all using the digital B@R app developed by our colleagues at the West Midlands Historic Buildings Trust with support from Historic England.

This equates to 89 and 88 percent respectively! Almost 100 previously unknown ‘At risk’ buildings have also been identified, and we are now able to effectively monitor their condition and take action as needed, alongside our local authority partners.

We are incredibly close to passing 90 percent completion within both our ‘live’ survey areas and will be expanding the project to new areas of the county later this Summer.

Watch this space for updates on our next B@R project launch events!

To get us even closer to completing the survey in Amber Valley, our original pilot area, can you help us to survey some of the ‘cold spots’ that are a little more off the beaten track?

Walkers, runners and cyclists- these might be some for you! The List Numbers can be searched here: https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/

Cold spot 1- Most easily accessible from Duffield

List Number 1276756

List Number 1233168

List Number 1158322

Cold spot 2- Most easily accessible from Smalley

List Number 1109106 (and associated listings)

List Number 1158505

List Number 1158346

Cold spot 3- Most easily accessible from Idridgehay

List Number 1158752 (and associated listings)

List Number 1311416

It may be that these ‘cold spots’ represent Grade II listed buildings or monuments that are not accessible to view from a public right of way. If this is the case, your help marking these buildings as ‘Not accessible’ would still be greatly appreciated. We can then pass this information on to our local authority partners.

If you haven’t yet joined our ‘Buildings at Risk’ project, but would like to get involved to help us reach our goal or receive some support with our exciting initiative, send the team an email to:

We are always happy to provide online support or arrange a 1:1 support session at a time to suit you.

This project was made possible by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and the National Lottery Players.
