Building Crafts Team Award


Joint Winners – The Grammar, Heanor


This year’s Building Crafts Team Award celebrates the exceptional craftsmanship that brought the restoration of The Grammar, Heanor to life. The judges recognised a group of specialist makers whose skills and dedication were central to the project’s success.


Among the craftspeople credited on the project:


Shaun Turnell – Hodkin & Jones

Plaster Moulding & Ceiling Conservation

The meticulous work on the decorative plaster ceilings, including the reinstatement of intricate mouldings in the main hall, was praised for its authenticity and precision.


Andy Phillips – Phillips Joinery

George Widdows Window Restoration

Andy led the restoration of the building’s distinctive George Widdows windows, blending fine joinery with careful conservation to preserve one of the Grammar School’s most recognisable architectural features.


Paul & Rebekah Hemmings – Hemmings Floor Restoration

Parquet Flooring Restoration

The sensitive repair and reinstatement of the historic parquet floors restored warmth and character to the interior, honouring the building’s educational heritage.


Kevin Lowe - Lindas Group

For their outstanding contribution to the restoration of the copper cupola, another defining element of The Grammar’s historic silhouette.


The specialist craftsmanship was supported throughout by A&S Enterprises Ltd, whose role as overall contractor was central to the successful delivery of the project.
